Joan's Bio

Personal Bio –My married name is Joan Mahaffey. I was born on August 25th, 1951 to Doris and Jonas Taylor of Inman, SC. I have two sisters, Teresa and Sharon and one brother Terry (deceased). I attended Inman schools and was very active in community and school projects as a girl.
I lived my whole life in Inman except for three years in Beaufort, SC until I married Hiley in 1994 after a courtship of 14 years. Our home is not far from downtown Spartanburg being just outside the City Limits.
I have three children: Heidi Mabry, Pammi Emory and Scott Emory. I also have four grand children: Josh, Justin, Jonathan Mabry and Jonas Babb and one great-granddaughter, Kera Mabry.
During the early part of my life I attended Inman First Baptist Church. My Mom and Dad made sure I was in church worship and kept me involved in many church activities and programs. During one period of my life I fell completely away from the church and Jesus was not a part of my life. Through others prayers and persistence I was lead back into the church and accepted Christ in October of 1977. I was washed in the blood and know my final resting ground will be in Heaven, for eternity, with my Savior Jesus Christ.
I am now a member of New Horizon Community Church of The Nazarene where I attend and stay active and serve when at home and not serving in another church.

Music Bio – I have been singing since I was three years old, when my dad put me up in front of the church to sing “Jesus Loves Me”. I have sung for so many weddings and funerals in the Spartanburg and surrounding counties that are too many to number.
My training in music came mostly from the Hymn Festivals that Southern Baptist used to hold for the children and junior chorus. They really taught kids how to sing.
Even though I was brought up in church, I didn’t surrender my heart and life to Jesus until October of 1977. After that my voice became a tool for the Lord to use, to help others come to Christ.
For many years people had tried to persuade me to follow my musical talents and pursue something in music either in or out of the church. Don’t know why I didn’t but I guess I never really felt lead to do so. After my conviction and salvation I now realize the Lord’s timing had not come for me to use my talents and gifts to serve Him. I thank the Lord that I didn’t get involved with something that may have led me in the wrong direction.
In one of the churches where I had been a member I was the Minister of Music for several years. Where I currently am a member, I am working with the youth to build a youth choir and fill in for the minister of music to conduct congregational singing and help with the adult choir when he is not there and I am available.
Although I had thought about seeking a profession in music I had never really sought it seriously. I have always enjoyed singing with others and love harmonizing but until I was asked to come and try out with 2 - R - MORE and felt the calling of the Lord to provide a ministry through song I had not been committed to a Gospel group.
My ultimate goal in life is to plant seeds for Christ for the coming of the Lord is drawing nigh.
